If you ask students which subject they feel is the hardest.... you most often will hear MATH! Why is math so difficult and what makes it the dreaded subject of the school day?
When someone finds a subject difficult what they are really saying is that it is not easily completed and most often requires hard work, labor, learned skills, and planning so the outcome can be performed successfully.

The heart of the math problem and how difficult the task at hand is comes down to how proficient the student can complete the task and be done with it. Slow and stead wins the race when it comes to math and most students find it difficult in staying with it...thus patience and persistence are the key factors in making the job of math less difficult. Students do not usually find math to be easily learned. In fact they find that it takes a lot of effort and does not come to them intuitively. Students must commit to the time and energy required by homework and study to become proficient with math. Brain power is not the key factor to learning math but sticking to it consistently is the path to math success. Patience is the biggest problem to overcoming math as the hardest subject in school.
In a time where kids instantly find answers to their questions from Google search or Google answers.... instant gratification and speed of information propel the student into a false understanding that they really don't need to become math proficient.
