Chewing- All dogs find chewing things rewarding and fun. They all need to satisfy their chewing needs. If you don’t provide them with some thing to chew on they will find something; a shoe, the leg of your dining room chair...most likely something you won't want them to damage. So help your dog or puppy out and provide a lot of things a dog can chew on: a squeaky toy, nylon bone, or rawhide. The only problem with rawhide is that some dogs can not process it and it is not good for the intestines.
Follow up:
Walking- Help your dog develop a routine and take him out on schedule. Dogs tend to learn how to housebreak faster and have a tendency to make less mistakes in the house if you develop a regular walking routine!
Feeding- Most dogs need to be fed once or twice a day! Ask your veterinarian what is appropriate for your dog. Make sure it’s the same amount of food at the same time(s) each day. Make sure their water bowl is always full with clean fresh water. Do not overfeed or give them sweets (like chocolate) which could cause serious health problems.
Grooming- Most dogs need to be groomed at least twice a week, depending on your dogs coat type. Brushing your dog helps its coat stay healthy, mat free, and odorless.
Ears- All dogs need their ears cleaned. Depending on the dog, you might have to clean them daily or weekly.
Nails- All dogs need to have their nails trimmed. If they are not trimmed, ask your groomer to do this for you or to show you. You would need special dog nail clippers. Don't try human nail clippers because they are the wrong strength.
Vet Visits- When you get a dog you have to have an annual check-up to make sure every thing is all right with the dog. If you find something on the dog or with the dog that might be a problem and does not go away within three days you should also go for a vet visit.
Keep your dog healthy by keeping their shots current and an annual visit to their vet!
