• No Bake Cookies for Valentine's Day

  I remember making these easy little no bake chocolate cookies a lot when I was a teenager. There's just one trick; you have to make sure that the sugar mixture boils hard for at least one minute, otherwise the cookies will be sugary instead of creamy. You can add other ingredients to this basic recipe. Substitute 1 cup of flaked coconut for 1 cup of the oatmeal. Add some chopped peanuts to the recipe for crunch. Or add some milk chocolate chips after the mixture has cooled slightly.

• Pro Football Hall of Fame List Shrinks, but Remains Incomplete | by Andrew Das

  The Pro Football Hall of Fame reduced its list of finalists for election this year to 15 on Sunday (well, 17 with the two senior committee members — noted with asterisks below). And it will be tough to pare this group.

  The final class, to be announced the day before the Super Bowl in February, will include four to seven members, but no more than five modern-era nominees.

  Origins

  Each year since 1947, the National Turkey Federation and the Poultry and Egg National Board have given a turkey to the President of the United States at a White House ceremony. Since then, presidents have been more likely to eat the turkey rather than give it a reprieve. A notable exception occurred in 1963, when President Kennedy, referring to the turkey given to him, said, "Let's just keep him." It wasn't until the first Thanksgiving of President George H.W. Bush, in 1989, that a turkey was officially pardoned for the first time.
